Amy Lyn Acuff (born July 14, 1975, Port Arthur, Texas) is a track and field athlete from the United States. A high jump specialist, she competed in the 1996, 2000, 2004, and 2008 Summer Olympics as a member of USA Track and Field.

Her best Olympic performance came at the 2004 Games, where her jump of 1.99 m earned her fourth place in the final.

She established herself domestically with wins at the USA Outdoor Track and Field Championships in 1995 and 1997. At the age of 22, she became the Universiade champion, edging out Monica Iagăr in the 1997 high jump final. Acuff was the winner of the 1998 Hochsprung mit Musik meeting in Arnstadt, Germany, becoming the first non-European winner in the history of the event. She went on to win at the national championships in 2001, 2003, and 2005.

Her personal best is 2.01 m, which she achieved in Zürich on August 15, 2003.

While in high school in 1993 she was named the named the national Girl’s “High School Athlete of the Year” by Track and Field News.

Amy Acuff’s high jumping journey started at an extraordinarily young age in South Texas.

Amy Acuff At age five in the summer of 1980, Amy could be found at the track stadium competing in A.A.U. sprint races. 50 meter, 100 meter, and 200 meter races, which were specially organized for kids five and under, were her first introduction to sport.

As her track and field exploits diversified, Amy took up other events and was a quick study. In 1985 she set an A.A.U. national long jump record for age 10 and under with 14’1″. From this breakthrough accomplishment, Amy’s determination would only grow.

At Calallen Middle School in Corpus Christi, Texas, Amy would first be introduced to the high jump as a “filler” event to pick up extra points for the team. With exponential improvement, her 8th grade season would culminate in the amazing performance of 5’8-1/2″. The mark set at age 13, would have been competitive at the high school state championships.

In addition to her early track and field success, Amy also excelled at basketball throughout her grade school years. In 1990, Amy’s freshman year of high school, Head Coach Leta Andrews would lead her perennial state power club all the way to the state championship. Amy had the good fortune to witness this great victory firsthand, as a sideline contributor.

Amy continued to flourish under Leta Andrews’ tutelage and support through high school athletics. Even without the technical instruction of a high jump coach, Amy would find an independent strength at this level. It was that same freshman year that would find Amy thrust upon the national scene with an incredible leap of 6’0″.

For the duration of her high school campaign, Amy would methodically go about capturing each separate national high jump class record:

* freshman (1990: 6’0″)
* sophomore (1991: Texas state record 6’2-1/4″)
* junior (1992: national record 6’3″)
* senior (1993: re-establishing her national mark at 6’4″).

Amy’s astonishing jump of 6’4″ at age 17, incredibly defeated an international field. On a cold and rainy night in Innsbruck, Austria, she remarkably topped the three medalists from the then recent 1993 World Championships. This was in her final meet of high school eligibility.

For her efforts, she was named 1993′s Gatorade Prep Track and Field Athlete of the Year, edging out the likes of Marion Jones. This prestigious honor, while also managing to stay focused academically and finish as her high school’s Salutatorian.

After high school, Amy accepted a full athletic scholarship to UCLA. There, she had the great fortune to train under the elite mentorship of coaches Bob Kersee and Jeanette Bolden. Without even blinking it seemed Amy quickly became part of their circle of success.

At UCLA, she would earn a degree in Biology in four years, while also complementing her golden track and field resume. While a Bruin in 1995, Amy jumped 6’6″ to establish a new collegiate record. This was on her way to 4 PAC-10, 3 NCAA Indoor, and 2 NCAA Outdoor titles.

Post-graduation, Amy remained in Los Angeles to train full-time. Being so close to the bright lights of Hollywood provided the opportunity to pursue part-time modeling. On select occasions she combined her eccentric flair for fashion with her athleticism by wearing non-traditional outfits while competing and attracting attention to a sport, which often times goes unnoticed.

The success Amy found on the track at UCLA, combined with her subsequent resiliency on the professional circuit, has now established her as one of the world’s elite for more than a decade.

She has finished ranked #1 in the U.S. three times, and been ranked no lower than 3rd in the nation for each of the last ten years.

Amy has been ranked in the yearly top 10 in the world on five occasions. Her honors include two Olympic games, in Atlanta 1996 and Sydney 2000.

She is now a Licensed Acupuncturist in Northern California and married since 2004 to pole vaulter Tye Harvey. She trains under Coach Dan Pfaff at an elite track and field training center in Stockton, California with about 20 other athletes. The training center, known as Tri-Valley Athletics track club, has been a big passion, with the objective of giving athletes a place to train and receive quality coaching after college.

Louis “Louie” Vito (born March 20, 1988) is an American professional snowboarder.

Career: Vito became prominent on the professional snowboarding scene at age 17 by completing a backside 1080 at the Australia Open – making him the first rider to successfully pull off the complex move. This helped propel him to the top of the podium, winning his first of two consecutive championships there.

In 2008, Vito was crowned the overall Chevy U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix series title champion. That year, he went on to win the Killington Grand Prix on the heels of winning the Tamarack Grand Prix. Two days later he won The Jeep King of the Mountain Superpipe Championships in Squaw Valley, California. Vito went on to win the Etnies GVR and took second place at the Vans Cup in a hotly contested battle for the championship with superstar Danny Kass.

Recently, Vito co-won the U.S. Snowboarding Grand Prix series title championship, his second consecutive title. He finished first at the Copper Mt. Grand Prix and 2nd at both the Grand Prix at Boreal and the World Cup in La Molina, Spain.

Vito has been featured on ABC Family’s Switched. He has also made numerous appearances on The Daily Habit on Fuel TV, as well as features on Fusion and RSN TV. Vito has had feature stories on all the major TV networks as well as many cable stations including ESPN. He tried his hand at commentating when he had his debut on WGN-TV’s Fruit by the Foot Junior Jam.

Vito appeared on Season 9 Dancing with the Stars. He partnered with former So You Think You Can Dance contestant Chelsie Hightower. He was eliminated from the competition in week six of the program. In addition to his dance rehearsals for the show, Vito trained intensively for the 2010 Winter Olympics, where he later achieved 5th place.

Vito trained for gymnastics before starting snowboarding.

So a bio on myself… Well, I was born in Columbus, Ohio but grew up in Bellefontaine. I learned how to snowboard at this 300 vertical foot resort called Mad River Mountain which is only about five minutes from my house. I started out skiing and saw snowboarding one day and thought it was cool, so I tried it out and have been snowboarding ever since.

Since Ohio isn’t known for their mountains, my public school had a hard time understanding why I would miss school to travel and snowboard, so my parents decided to let me go to Stratton Mountain School, which is a snowboard school in Vermont. I went there for the winter of 8th grade and all through high school. They let you snowboard in the morning and go to school in the afternoon and travel as long as your grades were alright.

As soon as I graduated I bought a house in Salt Lake City, and am still living there. It has what I think is the best snow, a city, good resorts, good sledding, easy to drive anywhere and close to an airport. Not to mention some of the best snowboarders, so there’s always a good crew to ride with.

When I’m not snowboarding or traveling I am normally just posted at my house relaxing. Sometimes I go skating or clean my house from the winter disaster I make inside, and just hang with the homies since they are always in and out all winter also.

If I wasn’t snowboarding right now, I think I would probably be in school trying to get an education, so luckily snowboarding is working out. But I do hope to be snowboarding for a long time, just need to stay healthy and keep having fun with it.

Miki Ando, (born December 18, 1987), is a Japanese figure skater. She is the 2007 World Champion, the 2004 & 2005 Japanese National Champion and the 2004 World Junior Champion.

Ando is the first and only female skater to complete a quadruple jump successfully in competition. She accomplished this at the 2002-2003 Junior Grand Prix Final in The Hague.

As of 23 October 2010 (2010 -10-23), Ando is ranked 4th in the world by the International Skating Union (ISU).

Miki started to skate at the age of nine. Her first triple jump, a Salchow, came two years later. She was the first female skater to land a quadruple jump, also a Salchow, in competition. Her first quad was performed at the 2002 ISU Junior Grand Prix Final in the Netherlands when she was barely 15 years old.

Among Miki’s early competitive highlights are winning her two Japanese National Ladies Senior titles in 2004 and 2005, her bronze (2002), silver (2003) and gold (2004) medals at the World Junior Figure Skating Championship, gold medal at the 2004 Junior Grand Prix Final, and her fourth place finish at the Senior Worlds in 2004, weeks after winning the World Junior title.

2004-05 saw Miki successfully debut full-time in senior international competition, during which she won bronze and silver at two senior Grand Prix events, finished fourth at the prestigious Grand Prix Final in Beijing, and finished sixth at the World Championships in Moscow, skating in the final flight of skaters.

In 2005-06, Miki left Japan and her coaches Nobuo and Kumiko Sato, the parents and former coaches of Yuka Sato, for Cleveland and 1960 Olympic champion Carol Heiss-Jenkins. Under Carol’s tutelage, Miki rediscovered her love for skating, but was unhappy with her training situation and life in Cleveland. Despite winning a silver medal at Cup of Russia and being named to Japan’s Olympic team, she was disappointed with her 15th place result in Turin. Japan Skates was privileged to interview her during her time in Cleveland, at such an important juncture in her career.

In 2006-07, Miki finally realized her great potential in winning the ISU World Championship. Under coaches Nikolai Morozov and Yuko Monna of Ice House in New Jersey, Miki skated a stunning, near-perfect performance in front of a screaming crowd in Tokyo.

2007-08 saw Miki skating unevenly but indicating that she may be have been peaking toward the Worlds. She was unable to defend her world title, however, due to an injury aggravated during the short program, forcing her to withdraw while attempting her free skate. 2008-09 was an up-and-down year for Miki, but she finished on a high note with an excellent free skate at the 2009 Worlds in Los Angeles, coming in second on the day and third overall for the bronze medal. Miki had a solid 2009-10 Olympic season, earning fourth place finishes at the both the Olympics in Vancouver and the World Championships in Turin, by working on perfecting triple-triple combinations and cleaning up her spirals and step sequences.

Miki’s skating idols include 1994 World Champion Yuka Sato, as well as her close friend and former teammate Shizuka Arakawa. Miki found Shizuka’s performance at the 1998 Nagano Olympics particularly inspiring.

Miki is a charming young lady on and off of the ice. While she can be quiet and shy around strangers, she warms up quickly. Her English is very good and she gives enthusiastic interviews. Miki’s favorite comic strip character is Snoopy, and she can be seen clutching Snoopy toys after her programs.

2010-2011 season: Ando was assigned to the 2010 Cup of China and the 2010 Rostelecom Cup for the 2010-2011 ISU Grand Prix season. Before the start of the season, she decided to train in Daugavpils, Latvia. Originally, she intended to move to Russia, but changed plans due to the smog and heat wave in Moscow. At Cup of China, she attempted a triple Lutz-triple Loop combination in the short program, but the combination was considered underrotated by the judges and she was placed in 3rd with 56.11 points. In the long program, she had a clean performance and won this segment of the competition with a score of 116.10 and was placed in 1st overall, winning the gold medal, with 172.21 points, 9.35 points ahead of silver medalist Akiko Suzuki and 23.60 points ahead of bronze medalist Alena Leonova.

Shaun White Pictures SnowboardShaun Roger White (born September 3, 1986) is an American professional snowboarder and skateboarder. He is a two-time Olympic gold medalist. He rides regular stance, twelve and negative three degrees on his board.

Athletic achievements: In 2003 White was the first to compete and medal in both the Summer and Winter X Games in two different sports.

White is the first snowboarder ever to land back to back double corks, at the Red Bull superpipe.

He remains the only skater to land the frontside heelflip 540 body varial. (The Armadillo).

He was the first to land a Cab 7 Melon Grab in vert skateboarding.

He is the first snowboarder to win back-to-back gold medals in the Winter X-Games Superpipe.

He is the first (and only) person to win both a Summer and Winter Dew Cup.

White was the first to “three-peat” in SuperPipe at the Winter X Games.

Shaun White holds the record for the highest score in the men’s halfpipe at the Winter Olympics. In 2006, his 46.8 points bested Ross Powers’ previous record of 46.1 from 2002. In 2010, during the Winter Olympics in Vancouver, he improved his own record with 48.4 points in his final run.

Full name: Shaun Roger White

Height: 5 ft 8 in (1.73 m)
Weight: 154 pounds (70 kg)

About Shaun: Shaun White is many things but most notably he’s driven. He holds many of the highest accolades within snowboarding and skateboarding, and at 23, he’s only getting started. An X Games double threat with medals in both snowboarding and skateboarding, as well as a gold medal from the 2006 Winter Olympics, Shaun White possesses insane skills and instantly recognizable looks. This amazing combination has made him one of the most recognizable sports figures of his time.

Born in San Diego, California in 1986, Shaun Roger White endured two major surgeries to correct a heart defect before he was a year old. Despite these conditions, the growing youngster proved that he was far from frail, charging into sports like surfing, soccer and snowboarding at a young age.

Shaun grew up in a family of five: Mom (Cathy), Dad (Roger), Sister (Kari) and Brother (Jesse). One of the family’s favorite pastime included skiing. With no close mountain resorts, they would take weekend road trips up to local mountains. At the age of four, Shaun proved to be fearless on his skis as he raced down the slopes with older brother Jesse. At six, in an attempt to slow him down, Cathy decided to put him on a snowboard and instructed him to copy everything Jesse did. Shaun did just that, unfortunately for her, it only encouraged Shaun to go faster.

His parents supported Shaun’s snowboarding ability and took him to the mountains as often as possible. At seven, Shaun entered his first amateur snowboard contest and won, earning him a wildcard entry into Nationals, where he placed just outside of the top 10. At that time, Cathy sent Burton a homemade video of Shaun just as the company was coincidentally developing a kid-sized snowboard line. Not surprisingly, they were impressed, and offered the seven-year-old a sponsorship deal. With the support of Burton, he turned pro at 13.

After winning five national titles as an amateur, Shaun captured his first major win as a pro in 2001 at the Arctic Challenge. He earned his first Winter X Games medal when he was 16, and between Slopestyle and Superpipe hasn’t failed to stand on the Winter X podium since. Between skateboarding and snowboarding Shaun now holds 16 X Games medals, and a record 10 of them are gold.

While Shaun was being lauded as a snowboard prodigy, he was simultaneously turning heads on the skateboard scene. Professional skateboarder Tony Hawk befriended the nine-year-old at a local skatepark and mentored the up-and-comer, helping Shaun turn pro in skateboarding at the age of 17. In 2003 he became the first athlete ever to compete and medal in both the Summer and Winter X Games in two different sports. In 2007, Shaun set unparalleled standards by winning the overall title and prestigious honor of Action Sports Tour Champion thanks to his impressive skills in skateboarding vert.

One of Shaun’s rare disappointments had been failing to make the 2002 Winter Olympic lineup; he narrowly missed earning a spot on the U.S. team by three tenths of a point. In the 2006 qualifiers for Torino, however, he took no prisoners. Shaun went undefeated with 12 victories that season, becoming the first athlete ever to sweep the five-event U.S. Grand Prix series, which serves as the Olympic qualifiers. His come-from-behind gold medal win in Halfpipe was compelling enough, but his unscripted wit and casual charisma with the media and fans sealed the deal: Shaun White was now a household name.

At 23, Shaun shows no sign of letting up on the competition, taking on the world in contests leading up to the 2010 Winter Olympics to be held in Vancouver, Canada. Shaun wanted to pull out all the stops and introduce new tricks to the snowboard world this year, and with the help of Red Bull, a halfpipe was created with snowboarding’s first-ever on-mountain foam pit. The Red Bull foam pit allowed Shaun to attempt tricks he never thought would be possible. The one-month training session, dubbed “Red Bull Project X” allowed Shaun to push the progression of snowboarding, and he emerged from Project X with an arsenal of new tricks, including the first ever back-to-back double cork variations which he then debuted at the Burton New Zealand Open in August ’09.

In addition to his athletic talents, Shaun has a knack for business. By partnering with companies that he thinks are cool, Shaun has been able to reach out beyond his sport and embraced the position of brand ambassador for companies like Burton, Target, and Ubisoft.

Last year he debuted his original clothing line, Shaun White 4 Target. Shaun and his brother Jesse work together to create a stylish and affordable line of T-shirts, woven shirts, shorts and denim jeans for boys and young men. Shaun also spends time at Target House, a residence for families and patients receiving long-term treatment at St. Jude Children’s Research Hospital. He recently designed and funded the creation of the Shaun White Great Room–a place to hang out, explore and meet new friends.

Along with Burton Snowboards, Shaun has collaborated on a signature outerwear line named the White Collection. His signature men’s outerwear line debutted in the fall of 2005; expanding into boots, boards, bags, glove, and as of 2008, Womens Outerwear. The 2010 line embodies both a cultural and musical revolution inspired by the underworld that emerged in England’s post-punk society. It was in this revolutionary spirit that Shaun set out to recreate the new line. The White Collection hit stores and Burton.com in August 2009. In addition, last October Burton released “The B”, a snowboard film featuring the riding of Shaun White and the Burton snowboard team.

In 2008, Shaun partnered with Ubisoft on the development of his first video game, Shaun White Snowboarding: Road Trip. The game was a worldwide success, selling over 3 million copies since its launch and establishing a new sports brand for Ubisoft. Building upon the success of last year’s game, Shaun and Ubisoft have teamed up again on the holiday 2009 release of Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage. With creative control from conception to completion, Shaun takes a hands-on approach ensuring everything in his game is just right. Shaun White Snowboarding: World Stage follows Shaun and his crew of friends as they go from chasing the best powder to pursuing the world’s top competitions. The new game infuses the snowboarding experience with the most authentic elements of Shaun’s riding style, personality, and sense of humor.

Shaun has also been a pioneer for eyewear since he joined the Oakley family in 1998. He was the first athlete to ever co-design a sunglass with Oakley, which he named “The Montefrio, while simultaneously releasing the first ever signature series A-Frame goggle. For 2010, Shaun’s collection includes a Signature Jupiter sunglass and a new Signature A-Frame goggle.

Whether in a halfpipe or on a vert ramp, this five time ESPY award winner is undoubtedly a talented athlete. Along with his athletic accomplishments Shaun still finds time to give back, frequently stopping by Target House as well as supporting other organizations such as Tony Hawk Foundation, Heartgift, Make-A-Wish Foundation and Summit on the Summit. Despite his hectic schedule Shaun makes sure there’s always enough time for his friends and family.
