Liverpool’s Alberto Aquilani: Roma’s Doctors ‘Didn’t Do Me Any Favours’
Alberto Aquilani, now at Liverpool, has hit out at Roma’s medical staff over their handling of his various injury concerns during his time at the club.
A youth product of the Giallorossi, Aquilani’s hugely promising career has hung in limbo over the past few seasons due to an inability to reach full fitness.
The midfielder, who is currently recovering from ankle treatment, said in The Daily Mail, “I realise now that the way things were sometimes done in Italy didn’t do me any favours.”
“For example, this latest problem with my ankle was initially overlooked by people at the club. They thought it was a minor problem and told me to carry on playing and subsequently it needed surgery.”
Aquilani believes that the constant alterations to Roma’s medical staff were partly to blame, and he is considerably more at ease with the physicians at Anfield.
“The problem there was the doctors changing all the time,” said the Italian international.
“I am so happy to be here, from a football point of view but also for my wellbeing, because I have noticed a difference already.
“The doctors here have told me not to rush, because that way we would avoid any recurrence.”
