PSV Eindhoven 4 – 3 Ajax
Loss Against PSV Disappoints Ajax Coach Martin Jol
Amsterdam giants Ajax started the 2009-’10 Eredivisie campaign with victories against Groningen and RKC Waalwijk and many fans were already dreaming of winning the title.
However, Ajax were beaten 4 – 3 by rivals PSV Eindhoven on Sunday in the first serious test case of the season. Head coach Martin Jol spoke of his regret after the match.
“I’m a bit disappointed that we were unable to pick up at least one point. We scored three goals in an away match and that should be enough not to lose,” said Jol.
“Suarez got a great chance to double our lead, but he missed the opportunity. I can’t blame anyone for the two goals PSV scored from set pieces, but we should have defended better on the other two goals they scored”.
“However, we didn’t play a bad match. Our start was outstanding and we reacted good, after falling 3-2 behind. We created a lot of chances today. Unfortunately, we were not rewarded for our attacking intentions.”
