Rex Ryan: He’s a knucklehead
New York Jets coach Rex Ryan was left frustrated as he saw quarterback Mark Sanchez limp out of the 19-13 victory over Buffalo Bills in Toronto.
Sanchez, who completed seven of 15 for 104 yards and one touchdown,
hobbled off after he injured his right knee diving on an eight-yard run.
Sanchez had been working on sliding with New York Yankees manager Joe Girardi in the build up to the game after already suffering a knee injury this season.
However the move failed to pay dividends as Sanchez was replaced by backup Kellen Clemens in the third quarter – much to the annoyance of Ryan.
“He’s just competitive, trying to get the first down,” said Ryan. “Okay, if he had slid we might not have got the first down but we might not have had a quarterback get hurt either.
“I know why he did it. But he’s got to understand I don’t care about the first down, I care about him.
Reckless
“He can’t be reckless. I never want him diving forward. I don’t want to see that. I thought we were clear on that.
“He’s our knucklehead and we love him, but man.”
The Bills had taken the early advantage through Rian Lindell’s 49-yard field goal and a touchdown run from Marshawn Lynch.
Jay Feely’s three field goals kept the Jets in touch, before Sanchez’s 13-yard touchdown pass to receiver Braylon Edwards gave New York a 16-10 lead.
Feely and Lindell exchanges field goals, but the Bills could not find the winning touchdown.
Buffalo quarterback Ryan Fitzpatrick attempted to snatch victory late on, but his long attempted pass to Terrell Owens was intercepted by cornerback Darrelle Revis with two minutes left.
Owens was limited to just three catches and 31 yards as the Jets defensive game came out on top.
