Karl-Heinz Schnellinger (born 31 March 1939 in Düren) is a former German footballer. He was one of the world’s best defenders for a decade in the 1960s.  He was nicknamed the “Volkswagen” for his continuity of performance, both in quantity and in quality.

Club Career: e won the German championship with 1. FC Köln in 1962, and was awarded the (German Footballer of the Year), performed superb in the World Cup and was subsequently named in the World Cup Dream-Team 11. His debut in the Serie A came in 1963, when Schnellinger left 1. FC Köln for A.C. Mantova, in a match against A.C. Milan which ended in a surprising 4-1 victory for A.C. Mantova. However he played there only for one season, and was signed by A.S. Roma in 1964 where he won the Coppa Italia, and finally by A.C. Milan in 1965. He played nine seasons with the Rossoneri, obtaining several successes both at the national and European level. He was one of the first successful German footballers abroad.

International Career: He participated in his first 1958 World Cup in Sweden at the young age of 19, and went on to become one of the few players to play in four times World Cups (1958, 1962, 1966, 1970). He was renowned for his physical power, pace, and his winning mentality. His only international goal came in the last minute to draw 1-1 in the thrilling semi-final of the 1970 World Cup against Italy which later became known as the “Game of the Century” Italy eventually won 4-3 after extra time.

Uwe Seeler (born 5 November 1936 in Hamburg) is a former German football official and retired football player. He played for Hamburger SV and also made 72 appearances for the West German national team.

Playing career (1954–1978): Seeler followed in his father’s footsteps as a player for Hamburger SV, making his first team debut in 1954 in a German Cup match, aged just under 18, scoring four goals (8–2 vs. Holstein Kiel). In later years, despite tempting offers from Italian and Spanish clubs he remained loyal to Hamburg, working on a second career as a merchant besides playing football, as in those days football stars in Germany did not earn the huge salaries seen now.

Seeler was a gifted striker who, among other things, was renowned for his overhead kick. He scored 137 times in 239 Bundesliga games, 43 times in 72 international games for the German national team, and 21 times in 29 European club tournament games. He was captain of both his club team and the national team for many years. He and his club won the German championship in 1960 and the DFB-Pokal (German FA Cup) in 1963. He was top scorer of the first Bundesliga season 1963–64 and German Footballer of the Year in 1960, 1964 and 1970.

In 1978 he and his former team-mate Franz-Josef Hönig played for Cork Celtic F.C. in a one-off sponsored event. Seeler had ended his active playing career in 1972. However, this match turned out to be an official League of Ireland one and Uwe scored twice. Thus, his overall record of goals scored in League and Cup matches adds up to 509 (HSV 507, Cork Celtic 2). So far, this record has never been topped by a German player.

Jérôme Boateng (born 3 September 1988 in Berlin-Wilmersdorf) is a German footballer who plays as a defender.

Boateng has a German mother and a Ghanaian father. His paternal uncle is a former Ghana international. He has one sister, Avelina, and two half brothers, Kevin-Prince and George Boateng (not the current Hull City midfielder).

Per Mertesacker (born 29 September 1984 in Hannover) is a German footballer who plays as a defender for Germany national football team.

Despite his intimidating height, his game is unusually clean for a defender, evident by his relatively few bookings. He is known for having a penchant of scoring headers from set-pieces and corners due to his height advantage.

Philipp Lahm (born 11 November 1983 in Munich, Bavaria, Germany) is a German professional footballer who plays as a defender.The intermn captain of the German national team.

Philipp Lahm has played for VfB Stuttgart and Bayern Munich in Bundesliga and for Germany at Euro 2004, the 2006 FIFA World Cup and Euro 2008, and scored the opening goal of aforementioned World Cup. He is considered one of the best full backs in the world, as is shown by his inclusion in the Mastercard All Star Team in 2006 and the UEFA Team of the Tournament in 2008. He is well known for his pace, dribbling and crossing abilities as well as his small stature. Although Lahm is right-footed, and while he played as a right back as a youth, he has also been played effectively at left back.

Lukas Podolski (born as on 4 June 1985) is a Polish-born naturalized German footballer who plays as a striker for Köln and for the German national team. He joined 1. FC Köln in 1995 where he broke into the first team in 2003 and made 81 appearances for the club before moving to Bayern Munich. After three years in Munich with mixed success, Podolski returned to Köln. Although he was eligible to play for Germany and Poland, Podolski chose to play for Germany. He was first capped in 2004 and has been part of the squad in all major tournaments since then.

Before joining the youth team of VfB Stuttgart in 1995, he played at TV Oeffingen. In the first months of the 2006–07 season, he was called up into VfB’s Bundesliga squad by manager Armin Veh. His debut followed on 1 October 2006 against Hertha BSC. He scored his first two goals on 29 October in a game against Schalke 04. On 29 January 2007 he signed his first professional contract at VfB, valid until June 2009.

Arne Friedrich (born 29 May 1979) is a German footballer.As of May 2010, the Hertha BSC captain has represented his country on 70 occasions, his debut coming in the 2–2 draw against Bulgaria in Sofia, on 21 August 2002.

He was included in the 23-man squad in 2006 World Cup, where Germany finished third. Friedrich started almost every game and was very instrumental in getting Germany to the Third Place match. He is a very versatile player, playing full back, center back, and occasionally a more midfield position. He was also called up to Germany’s Euro 2008 squad.
