Golf Tips FundamentalsWhile studying golf, the fundamentals are the building bricks of a fine game. If you do not master basic principles, you will not be able to develop these to improve your sport. Many players battle years later with a particular problem simply because they didn’t get the fundamentals right at the start. Even if you’re not new to playing golf, it’s never too late to revisit the fundamentals and ensure you are comfortable with these golf ideas.

1- Get a grip-

The tighter you hold the club, the more the ball will tend to go right. The looser you grip it, the much more likely it’s to go left. In general, you may need a balanced grip that is not too tight or too loose.

2- How to hold the club-

Support the club correctly with the handle in your palms and your thumbs facing down. Both hands should both be touching one another. The club should rest in your hands with the butt in your palm.

I’m not sure if what they are wearing is proper golf attire or permissible at most golf clubs but I think they made an exception for these two.

Background: Lightning learner Lee took up the game at the age of 13 after his grandparents bought him a half set of clubs, and less than two years later, he was crowned junior champion of home county Nottinghamshire.

Lee won his first amateur event in 1990, turned pro in 1993 after winning the British Youth Championship and it’s been uphill from there. During his successful career, Lee has won 18 events on the European Tour and has also won tournaments in America, Africa, Asia and Australia. His Official World Golf Ranking peaked at 4th, and in 2000 he won 7 tournaments worldwide and was ranked first on the European Order of Merit, ending Colin Montgomerie’s long run of European Tour dominance.

A regular on the Ryder Cup team, Lee has played in the last six successive competitions. 2006 saw Lee further embellish his magnificent Ryder Cup record when, for the second successive time, he remained unbeaten in all five matches.

Lee has enjoyed a spectacular return to form in 2007, winning the Valle Romano Open de Andalucia and The Quinn Direct British Masters, and is now the joint second most prolific English winner with 18 European Tour titles to his name. Lee ended the year finishing fourth at the Tiger Woods hosted Target World Challenge, featuring the world’s best golfers, and cemented his place in Nick Faldo’s 2008 Ryder Cup team.

Born and bred in Worksop, Nottinghamshire, Lee was presented with Honorary degree of Doctor of Science on November 24, 2007 from Nottingham Trent University. He is also a keen fan of local football team Nottingham Forest.

Lee’s manager, ISM Chief Executive Andrew ‘Chubby’ Chandler, believes Lee has re-established himself among the current golfing greats and is now ready to win a major. Won the inaugural European Tour Race to Dubai, the Portugal Masters, the Dubai World Championship in 2009 and won his second PGA Tour event in 2010 at the St Jude Classic.

Manchester United: Golf Day Out

Saturday, October 2nd, 2010

Manchester UnitedDue to the fact that we have covered golf in some depth on this site before, we feel we’re within our rights to mention that there is some sort of big tourney taking place this weekend.

And not just any tourney. In a confrontation of a magnitude not seen since Sergio Ramos clashed with his hairdresser, this weekend Europe take on the United States in the Ryder Cup.

Now, the rules of this competition escape us. There’s some kind of points system, everyone appears to be wearing waterproofs and Tiger Woods is there checking out the birdies. We figure this is just about all you need to know.

Or is it? You see, to celebrate this fabulous occasion, a select bunch of Manchester United ‘ballers have gathered to represent Europe and the Americas. Throw in two buckets, a handful of golf balls and some clubs and let the magic unfold. The result is the above video.

Significantly more entertaining than the Ryder Cup itself? That’s not for us to say. But John O’Shea? You were robbed.
