As a result of his fine form, Gomes earned his first call-up to the Brazilian national squad for the first time in nearly three years in May 2009.

He carried this form into his second season at the Lane, despite suffering an early season groin injury.

After regaining the number one jersey once fit again, Gomes continued to dismay opponents and fans alike with seemingly impossible saves, making him a cult hero among Spurs supporters.

He made 42 appearances in total during his second season, and by the end of it was widely regargded as one of the best goalkeepers in the Premier League.

In May, 2010, Gomes was called up to the Brazil squad for the summer’s World Cup Finals in South Africa.

Gomes has a routine before kick-off in each half where he leaps above the crossbar on each side of the goal repeatedly, while fans behind the goal cheer him on.

Born in Minas Gerais, he arrived at White Hart Lane having won four Dutch titles in succession with PSV, reaching the semi-finals of the Champions League in 2004-05.

Gomes made his name at Cruzeiro in Brazil, debuting in 2002 before securing his move to Holland in 2004.
