Baltacha makes Hobart exit

British number one Elena Baltacha was beaten in straight sets by fourth seed Roberta Vinci in the second round of the weather-delayed Hobart International.

Baltacha had lost the opening set 6-3 on Tuesday before rain caused a lengthy delay in proceedings at the Tasmanian event.

When play did finally resume on Thursday, world number 39 Vinci took the second set 6-4 to complete her victory.

Baltacha, the world number 55, now heads to the Australian Open, which starts in Melbourne on Monday.




Nadal, Wozniacki top seeds

Rafael Nadal and Caroline Wozniacki have been confirmed as top seeds for the Australian Open, which starts in Melbourne on Monday.

Rain hampers Murray prep

British number one Andy Murray’s hopes of playing an exhibition match against Marin Cilic at the Kooyong Classic were dashed by the weather on Thursday.
